Project 1B focused on understanding materiality in relation to use and experience. We explored how materiality serves as both a backdrop for communal activities—conveying meaning and associations—and as an essential component of structure and construction. As part of this project, we were tasked with designing a small structure intended to showcase architectural form and materiality through a proposed set of activities. Our design exploration was guided by themes related to the notion of learning and the spatial experiences of users. These considerations directly informed the programmatic requirements that would later be developed in Project 1C.
