Project 3: Space and Sensory: Self - Exploration through Spaces
Task
Task 1: Re-examine and Re-examine Project 1 Models
-
Review and analyze the models created in Project 1, focusing on design principles, processes, and approaches.
-
Identify key elements and concepts within the models that can be further developed and expanded.
Task 2: Develop a Spatial Narrative
-
Use the identified elements from Project 1 to create a spatial narrative that considers the user's journey, experience, and emotions.
-
Consider how design principles can guide the overall experience and appreciation of the space.
Task 3: Translate Spatial Narrative into an Architectural Journey
-
Translate the spatial narrative into a cohesive architectural journey, emphasizing a path-portal-place sequence.
-
Refer to the sequencing principles outlined by White (1999) to structure the user's experience within the space.
Task 4: Develop Sensorial Experience
-
Utilize design principles, structure, materiality, anthropometry, ergonomics, and the architectural narrative to guide the development of a sensorial experience.
-
Create multiple test models and drawings to explore and refine the sensorial qualities of the "path-portal-place."
By breaking down the final project into these three stages, I have systematically reevaluate and build upon the concepts from Project 1, ensuring a thoughtful and comprehensive exploration of sensorial spaces.

Reflection
Engaging in this project has been a fascinating exploration of the evolution from foundational design principles and processes, as learned in Project 1, to the nuanced integration of structure, materials, anthropometry, and ergonomics in Project 2. Now, in this current assignment, I have revisited and reexamined the models from Project 1, transforming them into a series of Sensorial Spaces with volumetric boundaries totaling 30m³. This endeavor has been a multi-stage process.
In the initial stage, revisiting Project 1 models allowed me to discern latent potential and identify elements that could be expanded upon. This served as the starting point for developing a spatial narrative in the second stage. Considering the user's journey, experience, and emotions, I navigated how design principles could guide the overall spatial narrative, influencing the perception of the created environment.
Translating this spatial narrative into an architectural journey formed the third stage, emphasizing a deliberate sequence of path-portal-place. Following White's sequencing principles, I structured the user's experience to create a dynamic and purposeful journey through the space.
The final stage involved developing the sensorial experience of the "path-portal-place." This required a meticulous consideration of design principles, structure, materiality, anthropometry, ergonomics, and the overarching architectural narrative. Multiple test models and drawings became essential tools in refining and honing the sensorial qualities, ensuring a harmonious and immersive experience for the user.
Throughout this assignment, the interplay between design theory and practical application has been evident. It challenged me to think critically about how spatial design influences human experience and emotion. The integration of principles learned across multiple projects highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of architecture, emphasizing the need to balance aesthetic considerations with functional and experiential aspects.
Overall, this project has been an insightful journey, prompting a deeper understanding of the transformative potential of design principles and their impact on creating sensorially rich architectural spaces. It underscored the importance of a holistic approach, where each element contributes to a cohesive narrative that resonates with users on both an intellectual and emotional level.
