Project 1: Geometry and Form
Task
In this design project, participants are required to choose one Ordering Principle from a provided list, which includes Axis, Symmetry, Hierarchy, Datum, Rhythm, and Repetition.
The project is divided into four parts:
Part 1: Select an Ordering Principle from the list.
Part 2: Explore the chosen Ordering Principle through form and volume by creating models for each of the Primary Elements (Point, Line, Plane), ensuring that each model follows the selected Ordering Principle.
Part 3: Represent the chosen Ordering Principle by combining two or three of the Primary Elements from Part 2 in a subsequent model.
Part 4: Create four tattoo stamps of the model from Part 3. The stamps, drawn to scale 1:1, must be derived from a horizontal section (plan), vertical section (section), side view (elevation, choosing the most illustrative side), and top view. The drawings should include appropriate rendering and shading.
Overall, the project aims to explore and express architectural design principles through the lens of a chosen Ordering Principle, leading to the creation of detailed tattoo stamps representing the design in various views.

Outcome
Reflection
Engaging in this assignment has been a rewarding journey that has significantly contributed to my understanding of architectural design principles. Choosing an Ordering Principle from the provided list – in my case, I opted for Rhythm – set the foundation for a focused exploration of form and volume.
Creating models for each Primary Element (Point, Line, Plane) in Part 2 was a thought-provoking exercise. It pushed me to think critically about how the selected Ordering Principle, Rhythm, could be expressed through various architectural elements. This process of hands-on exploration was crucial in developing my spatial reasoning and design skills.
Part 3, where I combined two or three Primary Elements from the previous models, allowed me to synthesize my findings and create a comprehensive architectural representation. This step challenged me to find a harmonious rhythm between the elements, showcasing the chosen Ordering Principle in a cohesive manner.
The culmination of the assignment in Part 4, with the creation of tattoo stamps, was a unique aspect that brought a practical and real-world dimension to the design exercise. Drawing to scale 1:1 and considering different views emphasized the importance of precision and attention to detail in architectural representation.
Overall, this assignment has not only honed my technical skills but has also fostered a deeper appreciation for the thought processes involved in architectural design. It provided a holistic learning experience, blending theoretical understanding with practical application, and has undoubtedly enriched my approach to future design challenges.
