A1.
Design Elements
Task
-
Six portrait-oriented reference images of interior spaces were selected and marked visible points on each image and connected them to form two-dimensional patterns.
-
Descriptions were added to analyze the patterns formally.
-
One pattern from PART 1 was chosen and transformed into a three-dimensional (3D) model.
-
The selected pattern was marked on an A5-sized base, measuring 15cm x 21cm.
-
Key points and lines within the pattern that will serve as the basis for developing planes and voids, creating space and volume using various shapes and forms were identified.
-
A minimum of two mock-up models or working models were produced before settling on one final 3D model that was placed on the A5 base (15cm x 21cm) and not exceeding the height limit of 15cm.
Progress
01
I first selected my pattern of choice which I thought had more potential of developing and building up.
02
The pattern was then printed out and pasted onto a foam board.
03
Exploration into the first mock-up; playing around with height and arangements.
04
Upon mock-up completion, analysis of the model was done to identify are of improvements and areas to retain.
05
A second mock-up was created according to the changes implemented from the first mock-up.
06
An analysis was once again done upon completion to finalize the ideas for the final model and design direction.
Final Model
Outcome
The first assignment on "Design Elements" has been an eye-opening experience. I learned about the formation of plans, volume, and space in design. Studying the fundamental principles and creating two-dimensional patterns that translated into three-dimensional models allowed me to explore different shapes and forms. I gained a deeper understanding of how design elements interact to create harmonious compositions. The iterative process of refining my designs taught me the value of experimentation and critical analysis. This assignment has provided a strong foundation for future projects, and I'm excited to apply these newfound skills in my design journey.
TGC: Problem Solving, Critical and Creative Thinking Skills
